Hugh Freeze Named Head Football Coach at Auburn

A New Era Begins

After a nationwide search, Auburn University has found its new head football coach: Hugh Freeze. The 53-year-old was tabbed to take over on the Plains on Monday, November 28, 2022. Freeze comes to Auburn with a wealth of experience at the collegiate level, having spent the past six seasons as the head coach at the University of Liberty. Prior to that, he was the head coach at the University of Mississippi from 2012 to 2016.

A Proven Winner

As head coach at Liberty, Freeze compiled a 34-15 record, including two bowl game victories. Prior to joining the Flames, he guided Ole Miss to a 39-25 mark, including three bowl victories. Freeze's teams have been known for their high-powered offenses and aggressive defenses. He is expected to bring the same style of play to Auburn, which has struggled to compete in recent years.

A New Chapter for Auburn

Freeze's hiring is a fresh start for Auburn football. The Tigers have not won an SEC championship since 2010 and have not appeared in the College Football Playoff. Freeze is confident that he can turn things around in Auburn and make the Tigers a contender once again. "I am excited to be the head coach at Auburn University," Freeze said. "This is a great program with a rich tradition. I believe that we can build on that tradition and bring success back to Auburn."
